The Saturday night extravaganza at the old powerplant area Suvilahti will showcase many shades of current jazz music. All of the artists performing at this event have their own view of what forward-looking jazz music sounds like now and going into the future. There’s a distinct “ahead-of-timeness” to each of the acts hand-picked for this Saturday night marathon.
Teppo Mäkynen’s trio formation 3TM will present their fresh new and AWESOME We Jazz Records album “Lake”, UK DIY kings of intense groove-based jazz, Ill Considered, make their Finnish debut, as will do Belgium’s MDCIII, a hard-hitting group of reeds man Mattias De Craene plus two drummers. Heavy!
Hubro Music recording artist Hilde Marie Holsen presents her album “Lazuli”, which is some beautiful ambient-sounding meditative jazz. Dutch underground multi-instrumentalist Ronald Langestraat visits with his four-piece band. Check out his releases on Amsterdam’s South Of North label, who’s DJs will also be joining in on the fun.
At the Mittarikorjaamo room, one of our absolute favourite bands VIRTA hosts their festival-within-the-festival, VIRTA Festival, the contents of which remain a secret even to the We Jazz people at the time of writing.
Our goal is to walk away into the pitch black December night after this event thoroughly inspired and we wish the same for you.
Please note that the age limit for this event is 18.
